With the introduction of the computer the sign business has changed on an hourly basis. In the 1800s hand lettered, gold leaf lettering was all the rage. 1880s hand carved painted signs ruled. By 1920 it was electrical and neon, then chrome, and bright plastics. Now it is large images, neon, LEDs, soft sides, bus wraps, and yes, gold leaf is still elegant.
